Worlds of War
Worlds of War II is a popular free-to play online browser based strategy game [1].
About Worlds of War
Worlds of War II is thematically based on World War II and sees players take a leadership role of a nation situated in a continent alongside other players. There are typically four or more continents, depending on the number of players. It is entirely at the players discretion whether they help or hinder their continent, but it is advisable to be allied to your continent as good alliances are normally stronger than single players who don't form alliances.
The communication system within Worlds of War II means that communicating with other players on other continents as well as your own is easy, and therefore it is easy to form alliances. The game boasts Continent Forums where each Continent has its own forum to communicate on that other nations from other continents cannot see, which is extremely handy for planning allied attacks and requesting help. Furthermore, the game boasts an IRC chat room system which anybody can enter to discuss anything, including tactics plans and ideas for Worlds of War. Other communication devices include the fact that alliances across continents can be formed and as a player you can join other people's alliances, if they will allow you to do so. A section has been set up on the FHForums also as a suggestions box and a place to ask the games programmers questions.
Aim of the Game
The aim of the game is simple. Each player has a score and therefore a rank in the players list which is calculated by score. The person with the highest score at the end of the round, which usually lasts a few months, is the winner. Score is calculated on numerous factors including the amount of land, the amount of resources and the amount of military and defensive units. ?
When you first begin playing Worlds of War, you are placed in a random continent with 10 free land. Your continent only contains other players of the same force (British or German.) You can use land to build farms, mills, factories and mines which will then produce resources at timed intervals; standardly one hour. These resources can then be used for the purposes of research so that better and more improved units can be produced, or to manufacture available military and defensive units which can then be used to attack other nations. As the game progresses, and as more research is carried out, more units become available making your nation stronger.
By successfully attacking other nations you can deplete opponents' strength, resources, military units and gain land for yourself so that you, in turn, can build more resources. With more resources you can build more units and become much stronger. However, there is always a danger that somebody will attack you and therefore skill and strategy is needed many times during the game.
